The Eye - Official Teaser trailer

Following the succes of the Hong-Kong horror movie The Eye, a western remake has been shot.
The Eye is starring the gorgeous Jessica Alba in the role of a blind woman who receives eye transplants and who is haunted by strange visions afterwards.
The Eye should be released in February 2008.
Watch the trailer:

Here the plot:
Sydney Wells (Jessica Alba) is an accomplished concert violinist who has been blind since a childhood tragedy. Sydney undergoes a double corneal transplant, and her sight is restored. But Sydney's happiness is short-lived as unexplainable shadowy and frightening images start to haunt her. Are they a passing aftermath of her surgery, Sydney's mind adjusting to sight, a product of her imagination, or something horrifyingly real? As Sydney's family and friends begin to doubt her sanity, Sydney is soon convinced that her anonymous eye donor has somehow opened the door to a terrifying world only she can now see. I think the remake better suits a western public. Let's watch the trailer of the Asian version dating back to the early 2000's:

To my viewpoint David Moreau's version is better than the Pang Brother's version. But I must admit that I may be biased in this case and there is a reason: Jessica Alba ! ;-p

I think the Asia vision is much more horrible...it got me goose bumps. The David's looks much milder.))

I quite agree with you: remakes rarely withstand the comparison with thei Asian originals.

A stark example is the Japanese movie 'The Ring': if the Japanese movie was a masterpiece, its remake isn't worth to remember...

But remakes shed light on those original movies to a certain extent. So they do have some value.
